Blackbeard Lodge Ocracoke,The Islands Oldest hotel.
Blackbeard Lodge Ocracoke would be a nice place to vacation.Everything in the Outer Banks,especially Ocracoke, rings history.This is Ocracoke,s oldest hotel.You may have stayed at the Lodge before,but we have not.We have been coming to the Outer Banks for many years and have visited Ocracoke as well. Blackbeard Lodge was built in 1936 by local developer,Stanly Wahab.I would say it was built well to withstand the storms that the Outer banks have had. The Lodges first floor originally housed Ocracoke,s only movie theater.That was on one side ,and the other side had a skating ring.That would have been nice.Different activities for different times. Rooms for hire(now they would rooms for rent)occupied the second floor and often accommodated visiting dignitaries,movie stars, and well to do types who flew their planes to the island,landed on the sand flats,and taxied right up to the front door. That would have been quite a sight wouldn,t it?Just think,the room that you stay in may have had a movie star in it at one time(a blonde for me).Now where was I,now I remember. Another owner added some rooms in the wing that is now called the annex. In 1999 Ann and Buffy Warner(wonder if they are related to senator Warner,our sunday school teacher worked for him for years)purchased the 37 unit Lodge and gave it a complete renovation. Blackbeard Lodge Ocracoke is a family-oriented property during the vacation season,and then it changes focus during the fall,winter,and spring.They accommodate out door types and many that just want to find some peace and quite.I cannot blame them,can you?Below are pictures of the lobby.
Blackbeard Lodge has units that range from a room that sleeps eight with a full kitchen and dining area,to a room with one double bed.No mater what kind of room you need they most likely have it.And I almost forgot,the guys above have a lot more information that you can search for in Ocracoke. All rooms have TV.Some rooms feature whirlpool baths,while others may include a kitchenette,king size bed,refrigerator,or wet bar. They also have several rooms where you can keep your pet.A quick email and you would know a lot more. They also have pool tables,foosball,and electronic games(you know kids love them).You can also find someone for a little competition on the games. They also have quite a lot of bicycles for rent. The Blackbeard Lodge Ocracoke also has a heated swimming pool with a sundeck,and a wraparound porch with rockers(my speed).And if you want to fish,they have a fish-cleaning table.They also offer water to wash your hands and feet.Jump in the pool,that would wash your feet off.(I know that was a dumb thing to write).
If you surf fish or beach drive they also let you wash your vehicle for free.
Blackbeard Lodge is open all year.And what I like(you guessed it),free food.That excited me,so let me back up.In the off season they have a hot complimentary breakfast from 8 to 10 AM.Beside is a picture of their game room. I think that the beauty,quiteness,and just thinking about some movie star(women for me,just jokeing)would give you a vacation to remember.I know it would for me.Maybe we will meet at the Blackbeard Lodge in Ocracoke one day.This is the Blackbeard Lodge "at the top you can see that it has been new siding put on",inside of the lodge,and the front porch.
