Rodanthe Is A great Place,If You Are looking For A Slower Pace On The Outer Banks.
Rodanthe is part of the Outer Banks. They are located south of Nags Head.It takes about an hour and a half, depending on your speed to get there. Unlike Kill Devil Hills, and Nags Head, they are not over run with people, shopping centers, and resturants.
Above are a house and condo. If you are looking for a place to stay, these guys can find you what you need. The communities of Salvo,Waves, and Rodanthe blend into one.Unless you are a local, you would not know where one ends, and the other begins.Highway 12 takes you through these towns and on to where the ferry goes to Ocracoke.
I have said on some of the other pages, that the traveling on the Outer Banks is to that of falling off of a log.It is that easy(you just don't get lost).
I'll give you a couple of things to do if you plan on spending your vacation in this quite town.First,if you are a bird and nature lover, visit the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge. They are open 9 to 4 daily April through November and weekends the rest of the year.(it's free).Located north of Rodanthe, with over 59,000 acres.
Also use the observation platforms that are located through out the area. You can view hundreds of species of local birds, and any number of birds migrating to and from the refuge. They also have a visitor center, nature trail, bird walks, and children's programs.Great place to spend a day.
Another attraction is the Waterfall Action Park. This one is for young and old. They are also on highway 12.The kids will love this.My Grandson(10)does.They are one of the areas largest fun parks, and include water slides, race cars(we enjoy these),kiddy cars, for the little ones, miniature golf, bumper boats, bungie jumping, and more. They are the largest such park on the Outer Banks.
Also for you all ,like myself, that are fascinated by the ocean, there is the Laura Barnes shipwreck. The 120 foot ship, ran aground during a storm(some accounts say in 1921,and others say in the late 1800s).A swimming area, and a picnic area, are available nearby.
And don't forget to see the Chicamacomico US Lifesaving Service Station. It was established in 1874,and the villagers who have volunteered have been credited with saving many sailors.
Here are a few places to eat.One is the Boardwok south restaurant on highway 12.They offer Asian, and American.Seafood is offered for lunch and dinner.
A favorite with the kids is Lisa's Pizzeria(highway 12).They offer pizzas, subs and calzone.
Uncle Pawley's Restaurant (highway 12)has a variety of foods.Good place to eat.
A couple of places to stay,in or close,in the motel line,is the Sea Sound motel(252-987-2224).This is a small motel,but it has a pool,basketball courts,and a picnic area.
Another one is the Salvo Inn motel,oceanside(252-987-2240).Efficiencies and cottages are available here.A great place to stay at a afforable price.
There are also hundreds of rentals in Rodanthe.Below is the Hatteras lighthouse. It is a fun place to visit.Good luck on your vacation.I hope some of the information has been helpful.
